Consulting Competition

For a Digital Marketing class, myself and three others ran a potential marketing campaign for the Milwaukee Theater District.

For my Digital Marketing (MARK 4050) class at Marquette University, I participated in a Consulting Competition for Visit Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Theater District. My objective was to develop a Marketing Campaign within a $10,000 budget. We were given the goals to help increase tourism, increase ticket sales, and increase visibility of the Milwaukee Theater District. As a group, we needed to 1) Create two Influencer Marketing Plans, Email Marketing Plans, and a Social Media Strategy, 2) Develop an analysis and personas of potential visitors in the Milwaukee area given the data Visit Milwaukee gave to each group about the tourism and popularity of Milwaukee, and 3) design a brand activation plan in the Milwaukee area where visitors can go and interact with props and materials from the Milwaukee Theater District.

Our group met and talked through different marketing plans and concepts for this campaign and decided that the best idea for the entire campaign was a behind-the-scenes look at the Milwaukee Theater District. Then, we considered different personas, influencers, and social media posts about how best to fit our campaign beliefs and slogans. We researched different influencers in the Midwest area and different social media posts on Instagram on how best to market to each of our personas. This narrowed down the number of influencers we wanted to choose and how best to generate an Instagram post with hashtags and scenes. Through this research, we chose two different influencers, created an example social media post, generated an email to a subscription list, and designed a brand activation plan on how best to utilize the Milwaukee downtown area to increase visibility and ticket sales for the Milwaukee Theater District.

Our professors and judges were impressed by the quality of this marketing campaign and how in-depth we were in the Milwaukee area. In addition, we were able to learn vital skills on how to create a marketing campaign with personas, themes, taglines, social media outreach and partnerships, and email marketing for an entertainment district in a city with a population of over one million citizens.
